I am Rhys EDWARDS of Maidenhead Hockey Club’s 2’s and I am writing this report in relation to the incident which occurred on Saturday 23rd November 2024 at Altwood CofE School which saw the 2’s lose yet another game but this time by only 1 goal to nil.
The incident unfolded as the 2’s looked to correct their losing ways and finally get back on to a winning streak. The 2’s started off the game positively and began passing the ball around nicely and putting pressure on the Reading defence. Unfortunately Reading decided they too would push the Maidenhead defence and had a few opportunities on goal which were duly apprehended by the 2’s MoM Tyler in goal. Both teams were pushing hard but neither could break the deadlock in the first half and the half ended resulting in the 2’s going into the second half with all to play for. A potential Public Order offence was committed by 2’s coach Jaypee who was rightly getting frustrated with the 2’s for seemingly wanting to pass to Reading at every opportunity. Jelly babies were had and all parties calmed down so NFA was taken against the coach for his outbursts.
The second half started and the 2’s were pushing hard for that goal to put them ahead and it would seem that they were pushing slightly too hard as a Reading player somehow found his way into the 2’s D and fashioned a goal out of nowhere putting the visitors 0-1 up with about 20 minutes to go.
The 2’s didn’t give up there. There were constant attacks produced by the 2’s with some great link up play from the forwards and Mete and Theo in midfield. These attacks led to a number of short corners but alas the 2’s could not capitalise. A standout moment in the second half was when I was physically assaulted by the Reading keeper where he rushed out without any control taking my legs out and one of his own defenders out. Short corner was given and NFA taken against the keeper but this too was fruitless. The 2’s kept pressing for that equaliser but could not find the back of the net after a number of flicks by Alfie which were ultimately saved every time. This would then seal the 2’s fate and the game finished with the 2’s losing narrowly 0-1 to the visitors.
After this disappointing result the 2’s retreated back to the clubhouse for some beers and reflection on what went wrong. MoM was awarded to Tyler in goal for his countless saves to make it only 0-1. The DoD was awarded to yours truly writing this report for ALLEGEDLY not paying attention when exiting the car park and cutting up a poor learner driver who rightly honked and gesticulated in frustration.
I am the above person and I have nothing more to add to this report and therefore concludes my match report.
